The Triple Trail Junction N of Susie Lake, Desolation Wildeness

In the Desolation Wilderness between the Southern base of Dicks Pass and Susie Lake there is a quick succession of three trail junctions. The first junction is the Gilmore Lake Junction heading East, or left to Southbound backpackers. After passing East near the peak of Mt Tallac, this trail falls down to the North side of  Fallen Leaf Lake, where it turns Northwest to join Highway 89 just South of Cascade Lake.

The second trail junction offers three choices: First, the Right, or Northwest option which leads to Half Moon and Alta Morris Lakes. Your second option is the Left, or the Eastern trail, where the Glen Alpine trail leads to the Western shore of Fallen Leaf Lake and ultimately to Highway 89. For the Tahoe to Yosemite traveler the third option, straight to the South, is the correct choice.
