Spring Snow Backpacking 5, Day 3: Meiss Meadow through Carson Gap to lunch
Heading up to the Carson Gap from the North out of Meiss Meadow marks our exit from the Lake Tahoe Basin. From the Carson Gap we can see Round Top and the Sisters sitting before us, our final destination to the South.
From the Carson Gap we can see all of the local features before we drop straight down the South side of the gap to Highway 88. Shortly after crossing the highway we will pick up the blue diamond snow trail from Carson Pass to Woods Lake.
We're going to follow the blue diamond trail along the snow covered road down towards Woods Lake, until the route turns East to begin climbing up to Round Top and the Sisters. At this point I stop for lunch, to melt water, and have a nice cup of coffee.
But I had no place to sit down. So I set up an instant Al camp in the seat-less snow by popping off my sleeping pad as a seat, propping my backpack up with my snow sticks as a backrest, and situating my food, stove, and water bottle around my throne. I then sat down in comfort for a nice meal and hot beverage. It was very nice.
